Cricket- County Division Seven (East)
Callington IV v Liskeard II
Two thin teams provided a fat run-feast on a superb St Germans Road pitch, culminating in a record win for the home side. Inserting Liskeard with only eight players present to field did inconvenience Callington somewhat, especially as Graham Peters and Ian Taylor took full advantage for their Liskeard side. Pressure on Taylor's partners who were so aware of his proximity to a powerful century paid off in limiting what was heading for an enormous total.
The sheer class and timing of Kev Borlase in Callington's reply was a masterclass to the youngsters playing. After sprightly Sam Graber suffered the only bad bounce of the game, Steve Lees joined Borlase to add 149 for the second wicket. Liskeard fought back in chill and gathering gloom, but Callington Ivies held on for their biggest-ever second innings score to win.
Scorecard - Liskeard 217 (G Peters 80, Ian Taylor not out 99; I Pemberton 4-39), Callington 221-6 (K Borlase 119, S Lees 46, I Pemberton 17 n.o.; W Craven 10; G Peters 3-61).
Callington (20 pts) beat Liskeard (8 pts) by four wickets.
