Cricket- County Division Four (East)

Looe v Tintagel

Tintagel won the toss and elected to take first knock. S Brown (26) and S Parsons (14) put on 44 for the first wicket but two more fell for just seven runs. J Bean contributed 15, but it was A Warren who hit 33, containing six fours, and S Roach with 27, who hoisted the visitors to a reasonable total.

Simon Farley, still not nearly having much luck, was Looe's most successful bowler with 4-44. Mike Pengelly also bowled well, taking 2-42, while Robin Trethowan and Jonathan Nance took one wicket apiece.

Looe's reply also saw several batsmen get a start and then lose their wicket. The dominant innings was a fine 42 from Alan Nicholas, who hit five fours. He received support from Jonathan Nance (10), Robin Trethowan (16) and John Hocking (13).

Once they had gone, Looe stood at 107 for seven, but Malcolm Bond (13) and Malcolm Trethowan (25) took the score to 154 before Bond was caught. Trethowan was bowled off the fifth ball of the last over. Mike Pengelly was run out off the last ball attempting the winning run. A Billington with 2-27 from 16 overs bowled an immaculate contrary spell and J Griffiths claimed 5-43 with G Winkle and G Keenan taking one each.
