Bude vs Saltash

Saltash completed a fairly comfortable win over struggling Bude, but were made to work hard to achieve their second win over this Bank Holiday weekend.

Bude were inserted and were looking reasonably comfortable against the pace attack of Carpenter and Marshall on a slow damp wicket. However, when Carpenter threw down the stumps from fully thirty yards to run out Foster this signalled an early collapse.

At 36 for 5 Saltash were looking for an early trip home. Complacency set in as Bell hammered a quick-fire 40 as Saltash went to sleep and it needed the wily old head of Gould to restore normality as he out-foxed the batsmen to wrap up the tail.

Saltash's reply started off badly as on-form Durndell played on and Braund gave Bude some catching practice.

Gale and Stevenson knocked down and added 47 before Gale was bowled by a beauty from Foster. Marshall decided attack was the best policy and smashed a quick 22 and Gould carried on in similar fashion as he joined the ever reliable Stevenson to see Saltash home in the 43rd over to win by six wickets.

Scores - Bude 133 (M Bell 40, D Bowden 17, D Marsh 14; B Gould 4-24; P Marshall 1-24; N Carpenter 3-38; R Durndell 1-44). Saltash 136 for 4 (S Gale 21, I Stevenson 38 n.o., P Marshall 22, B Gould 24 n.o., D Foster 1-17; D Bowden 1-39; A Cornish 1-17; M Bell 1-28).
