Cricket- County Cornwall Seven (East)- Torpoint fly to victory in torrential rain
Torpoint v St Minver
The Torpoint squad journeyed down to St Minver in torrential rain, doubtful if the match would take place. On arrival, lo and behold bright sunshine appeared, even if it was accompanied by a little cloudy weather.
Skipper Radley won the toss and elected to put St Minver into bat. M Pooley settled quickly and batted solidly until Full bowled one of his beamers to dismiss him for a brave 37. Bunt and Holland scored 56 and 27 respectively. 'Nobby Nobes', after covering half the outfield, made a fantastic dive to catch Bunt. St Minver finished on 164 for seven. This was always going to be a difficult score for Torpoint to reach.
After more jolity and an excellent tea, 'Nobby' padded up with Feayer. Torpoint's openers didn't stay at the crease too long. Only six runs between them. Mr Reliable T Freestone after being put down, on single figures, battled steadily until "half" stumped by the Saints' 'keeper, who for some reason failed to gather the ball before dislodging bails. This upset the number three so much, he could only muster 74 runs before being caught in the outfield magnificently by Holland. 'Beefy' Full coming in at number six proceeded to find boundaries easy to come by, including four sixes, to give his best innings to date, 63 not out. Aided by undefeated skipper Raddler, Torpoint passed the required 164 comfortably aided by some lively running between the wickets. The Torpoint side had a fine day, with a five wicket victory.
