Amazed to be playing, Callington reached Newlyn to be greeted by heavy rain. Just standing long enough to bowl after that was an achievement, but determined endeavour hauled the visitors back into the game despite a steady half century by Kevin Phillips.

The Callington reply soon got into its stride when Kev Borlase and Steve Lees got together, but the asking rate was never quite mastered on a now-soggy pitch. None of the new batsmen could accelerate sufficiently to push for the win, so Newlyn persevered and prevailed.
