HAZEL Jones, treasurer of Callington Sugar Craft Club spoke at this week's town council meeting on arrangements with the town hall's kitchen. Mrs Jones explained that following the meeting the group discusses what has been shown over a cup of tea. 'The kettle is boiled in the committee room,' she explained, 'and the tea is also made there. 'However the Bar Sink is used to wash the cups and we are charged £3 which the club can ill afford.' Mrs Jones asked the council for the charge to be waived due to the little use of the kitchen, and pointed out that the club pays the same amount of money as outside caterers who have full use of the room and often leave it untidy. Chairman of the town hall and premises committee, Cllr Roger Ellard, said that when reviewing costs for the hall, the committee looked at ways to be fair for everyone and a set cost was this way. Portreeve Cllr Denise Winfindale said that the council had come up with a scheme where flasks of hot water and teas and coffees were provided at the cost of 20p a cup The council said the charge for the kitchen usage would stay in place, but as a one-off a previous kitchen bill given to the sugar craft club would be ignored.
