Running with dad in mind
AMONG those taking part in the Kit Hill run on Sunday will be teacher Caroline Soady - who will be tackling the hill with her father in mind.
Caroline will be raising money for the RNLI, as her father, Alan, was saved by Looe's lifeboatmen when he fell overboard from his fishing boat three years ago while cleaning his nets. Caroline, a 35-year-old maths teacher at Saltash community school, said that her father, of Nomansland, would have died, if it had not been for the lifeboatmen's quick actions. She has already raised £420 in sponsorship, but is aiming to make this £1,000.
The run is due to start at 11am at Callington community college, with a fun run beginning at l0am.
Para glider's high voltage clash
A para glider was lucky to escape with his life on Wednesday just after 2pm, when he became entangled in high voltage cables on his descent into a field at Struddock, between Seaton and Looe. He was able to release himself from the glider and fall safely to the ground. Liskeard and Looe fire brigades went to the scene as a precaution while SWEB disconnected the power and released the equipment. Some 700 homes were without power for 90 minutes. Station Officer Paul Devenish from Liskeard described the incident as potentially very serious. 'This man was extremely lucky not have been electrocuted' he said.
