Man taken to hospital after A38 accident
A man was taken to hospital after a serious accident involving a car, lorry and motorbike yesterday near the Menheniot turning on the A38 at about 7.30am.
The casualty, from Liskeard, was taken to Derriford Hospital with leg and head injuries.
One lane was closed for over two hours causing a long tailback before the Highways Agency cleared the road.
Escaped monkey is back at home
A South East Cornwall couple are thrilled to have Charlie, a 15 year old capuchin monkey, safely back home after he spent nearly three days in the wild.
Charlie escaped on arrival at Paul and Pauline Rooks' small rescue centre at their home in Trerulefoot on Monday evening, sparking a large scale search.
At one point the safety of the monkey was in question, as it was feared that he may not have survived the freezing night temperatures.
Scheme is vital to future of town
A company with wide-ranging experience in port and waterfront regeneration within conservation areas has been appointed as consultants for the Caffa Mill scheme at Fowey.
The Port of Fowey Partnership has appointed Gordon Lewis Associates of Cardiff as consultants for the scheme, aimed at bringing new impetus to the Caffa Mill part of town. Open days for public consultation, in the town hall, will be on March 3 and 4. Partnership chairman, John Oates, said that with the Eden Project now a reality on an immense scale the regeneration scheme is highly important to the town.
Museum exhibition to go on tour
Seven museums within Restormel have joined forces to produce an exhibition which will tour venues throughout the borough during the year 2000.
The exhibition, which highlights the history of towns and villages including Fowey, Lostwithiel and Luxulyan will visit venues from schools and supermarkets to holiday parks and hotels. The project aims to raise awareness of local museums with residents and visitors. It will be at Fowey community college from February 18 to March 20 and Taprell House, Lostwithiel library from March 20 to May 2.
New leader of Caradon Council
Caradon Council has elected Cllr Eric Lewis as Leader of the Council and six other councillors - Hugh Francis, Sid Gardner, Ivor Nicholls, Kath Pascoe, Derek Richards and John Yaxley to form its Cabinet under the Government's agenda to modernise local government. The Cabinet will have important responsibilities in helping Cornwall to deliver its overall aims to meet the community's needs in South East Cornwall.
