THE Cornish Times is backing the Moonlight Memory Walk by entering a team. With just two weeks to go before Children's Hospice South West's (CHSW) second annual Moonlight Memory Walk in Saltash the charity is delighted to see the numbers rising as more and more ladies sign up, including many teams. One team taking part is made up of colleagues from the Cornish Times. Gale Dukes from the editorial team took part in the event last year and is encouraging ladies to get signed up: 'Last year's walk had an amazing atmosphere – we really enjoyed it. It's good to be able to give something back for such a fantastic cause – and the pasties at the end were a very welcome bonus!' Colleague Viv Twornicki said: 'Although it was a poignant event, it was also filled with fun and camaraderie among all those taking part. I'm looking forward to that feeling of team spirit again at this year's Moonlight Memory Walk, and to meeting lots of interesting people and hearing all about their experiences.' WOMEN and girls are being urged to join in the South East Walk. The age restriction has been listed for the four-mile walk so girls from the age of 14 can join their mums and grandmums on the women-only event in Saltash on Saturday, October 11. This will be the second walk in the town after a successful first event last year saw 350 women take part and £30,000 pledged to the charity, which supports life-limited children and their families. Sarah Stott, events fundraiser for CHSW at Little Harbour, says: 'We are delighted we will be able to welcome young ladies from the age of 14 – I really hope this encourages lots of mums and daughters and granddaughters to take part as it is a very special event and one that can mean a lot when you can share it with someone.' Walkers will gather from 8pm at Longstone Park and the circular walk will start at 10pm. Before the walkers set off there is a candlelit Memory Ceremony when there are a few moments to remember loved ones, along with some words from the team at Little Harbour in St Austell. Sarah is looking forward to bringing the event back to Saltash again: 'The Saltash community were so supportive of our first Moonlight Memory Walk there in 2013 and I really hope that this year we see even more faces. It is always a very special evening for everyone involved, whether a walker, marshal or CHSW team member.' If you are interested in taking part, registration is open on http://www.chsw.org.uk/moonlight">www.chsw.org.uk/moonlight. The cost is £10 and participants are encouraged to raise as much as possible through sponsorship. CHSW also needs volunteers to help on the night. Volunteers, male and female, are needed to help marshal participants along the route. It is an opportunity for friends, family, husbands, partners and boyfriends to be involved with the event and help the charity. Marshals would need to be at Longstone Park from at least 8pm onwards. If you could help as a marshal please email [email protected]">[email protected]. uk or call Little Harbour on 01726 871800.
