A new competition has been launched to bring more murals to Callington’s famous collection.

The Town Council is inviting both amateur and professional artists to submit designs for artwork to be placed above the pharmacy in New Road.

While entries are required on A4 paper, the final murals will be painted on 1.7m by 1.2m marine plywood boards, and £60 will be given to each artist for materials.

The Council says it plans to keep the winning murals up for a year, and that the competition will then be run annually.

Entries, which will be judged by a panel chaired by the town’s portreeve, must be in by April 2. The winning murals must be completed and ready to erect on the wall by May 15 in time for Callington Mayfest on May 16.

A Callington-related theme is preferred but not vital, says the Town Council.

‘If you would like to enter the competition, please design your entry on an A4 portrait sheet of paper (same ratio as the boards) with your name and contact details on the reverse, and submit to Callington Town Council, Town Hall, New Road, Callington PL17 7BD addressed to Councillor Mike Tagg.’
