Author and environmental activist Ellie Jackson will be in Liskeard today to launch her latest children’s book.
Nelson’s Dangerous Dive tells the true story of Nelson the whale, who becomes tangled in ghost fishing gear, but survives thanks to some brave humans who intervene.
The illustrated book is the third in a series by Ellie highlighting the global issue of ocean plastics.
Children from primary schools around the UK are now using the stories as inspiration to organise their own beach cleans and litter picks, and to write to government and local businesses asking them to go single-use plastic free.
Ellie, who has received personal letters of support from Sir David Attenborough and Prince Charles, said: ‘’The important thing is that the books reach children and make a difference. This is about protecting our oceans for all creatures - including future generations of humans.’
Ellie will be reading from Nelson’s Dangerous Dive at The Bookshop in Liskeard at 4.30pm.
