A service of celebration of the life of a former Mayor of Looe was due to be held at St Martin’s Church, East Looe, this afternoon.
Stalwart of the local community for many years, ninety-year-old Colin Shore died at Cowbridge Nursing Home, Lostwithiel, on April 16. Colin served as a Looe town councillor for 13 years, from 1993, during which time he was deputy mayor in 1995-1996 and 1998-2000, becoming the mayor from 1996-1998. He was also an East Looe Town Trustee.
Colin and his daughter Edwina Hannaford, Cornwall and town councillor for West Looe, served concurrently as town councillors for a few years from 2003-2006.
Although born in Bristol, Colin lived in Looe from his early teens and soon immersed himself in community life. He married local girl Mary Mavin in 1959, who predeceased him in 2013. After leaving the Navy, Colin worked in Devonport Dockyard as a fitter and turner for 45 years, handing on his skills to many apprentices.
