The?Post Office has confirmed that Liskeard’s Post Office will not be franchised or relocated at present.
The news comes as the organisation announced it is seeking retail partners for 37 of its Crown Post Offices this year, including the Camborne and Redruth branches.
The changes will mean the loss of 400 jobs, says the Communication Workers Union, which says a further 127 financial specialist roles are also set to be cut.
A Post Office spokesperson said: ‘On the financial services side of the business, we are proposing to withdraw some sales roles in branches (including Liskeard) and we are now in consultation about this. The reason for this is because increasingly customers choose and buy products such as insurance online – we need to reflect that and will be investing in digital.
‘In making changes, our staff are our main priority and we have a good track record of supporting them and avoiding compulsory redundancies.’
