THE steps leading to Looe's 'second' beach are to be replaced.

A new set of metal steps will be installed to replace the collapsed concrete steps which went down to the beach beyond Tom Barber's rock. Work will begin shortly, in time for completion (weather permitting) by the spring.

The original steps were undermined by the sea and access had to be blocked off when an engineer warned of the risk of 'catastrophic collapse'.

The bulk of the cost will be met by the East Looe Town Trust. However, offers of contributions have come from Looe Town Council, West Looe Town Trust, County Councillors Toms and Hannaford via the Community Chest, and the Looe Old Cornwall Society.
