A CHANCE meeting at a barbecue four years ago resulted in a wedding of Jane Copley and Kevin McKane, two of Callington Town Band's musicians. Jane had been playing the cornet with the band since 2000 when, two years later, Kevin joined in a non-musical capacity to become treasurer. With no experience of brass band playing, he sat at the back of the rehearsal room, listening, until one day musical director, Paul Boase, suggested he try playing the bass drum. Although the couple met in Callington, they were both born not many miles apart in Essex. Kevin moved to Callington when he was three and Jane moved to Tavistock when she was eight. Neither come from particularly musical families although parents on both sides learnt piano. Jane is a nursery nurse and Kevin is an electronic engineer. Apart from a shared interest in brass band music and they also both play for the Tavistock Versatile Brass Ensemble (TUBES). Members of the Callington band played at the wedding, which took place at Tavistock, and, after their honeymoon, they will return to live in their house in Callington.
