A Cornwall councillor is asking for an urgent meeting over safety issues after a woman pedestrian was seriously injured in an incident at a notorious accident blackspot.
The woman, aged in her 50s, was walking along the A388 in Callington at around 6.45am on Monday, when she was involved in a collision with a black Vauxhall Astra near the junction of Coronation Road. She was taken to Derriford Hospital by ambulance. A similar incident happened in the same area last year when a young person was struck by a car and injured.
The driver of the vehicle involved in the accident, aged in his 20s and from Callington, has been reported for driving without due care and attention.
Cllr Andrew Long, the town’s portreeve, has called for an interagency meeting. He said: ‘I think it is important for all agencies involved in highways, from Cormac through to the police, to review the safety issues that may come up from this, and, where necessary, take the appropriate action to ensure the safety of all concerned.’
The police are appealing for information from anyone who witnessed the incident. They should call 101 or email [email protected]
