Motorists and local residents have a chance to inspect proposed safety improvements to the A38 Menheniot Junction, near Liskeard, today. Plans for the scheme will be on public display at an exhibition to be held at Menheniot Village Hall between 8am-8pm. The new proposals involve a range of measures which can be put in place to improve safety at the junction for both trunk road and local road users. The scheme has been drawn up following discussions with Cornwall County Council, Devon and Cornwall police and Devon and Cornwall Safety Camera Partnership and includes: l installation of vehicle-activated signs on the A38 which alert drivers that vehicles may be crossing the dual carriageway at the junction ahead l removal of grass areas on the central reservation to the east of the junction to improve visibility l pedestrian warning signs and improved bus stop road markings. Nigel Dyson, Highways Agency network performance manager, said there had been a number of serious accidents at this junction. He said: 'Most have involved vehicles turning across the junction. 'We welcome the public's views about our proposed improvements, and look forward to putting in place any additional or alternative measures that can be taken to prevent further accidents. Copies of the brochure and questionnaire concerning the proposals have been distributed to local residents and will also be available at the exhibition, and at the offices of Caradon District Council and Liskeard Town Council. In addition, they will also be placed at Post Offices at Menheniot, Liskeard and Looe, and public libraries at Liskeard and Looe.
