The A38 at Notter Bridge is now reported to be open again after flooding from the night’s heavy rainfall rendered it impassable in the early hours.

At 1.30am National Highways reported: "A38 #NotterBridge West of #Saltash over the river Lynher - Road is still closed due to the recent flooding. The water is mostly clear we have a sweeper on the way to clear the significant debris brought in by the floodwater."

But at 3.30am they were able to post that the road was now open: "Update - A38 #NotterBridge West of #Saltash over the river Lynher -

@DC_Police, Road is now fully open."

Flood warnings remain in place this morning across many areas of Cornwall and also in the catchment areas of north Dartmoor rivers in West Devon.

Elsewhere in the UK, Cumbria’s very heavy rainfall yesterday is said to have left the important A591 road between Grasmere and Ambleside in the central Lakes heavily flooded and impassable in several places near Rydal, a former home of the poet William Wordsworth.
