Police are appealing for witnesses following a violent assault that left a 38-year-old man hospitalised.

The incident took place in the Gover area of St Austell between 11.55pm on Sunday, August 14 and 6am on Monday, August 15. The victim was walking home along the Trenance Road and Blowinghouse Hill area.  

Ed Gard, Sector Inspector for St Austell, said: ’We have taken the unusual steps of releasing images of the victim which show the shocking and serious nature of the injuries the man suffered. He was walking home after a night out when he suffered these injuries. We also believe that he remained unconscious for quite some time before being discovered.

’The victim’s injuries include a broken neck; bleed to the brain; fractured eye socket; along with cuts and bruises.

’We want to hear from anyone who was in the Gover area from before midnight through to the early hours of Monday morning who may have seen something suspicious or who witnessed the attack.’
