An out-of-control bonfire in the middle of Looe led to ‘numerous’ 999 calls last night.
Firefighters from Looe and Liskeard were sent to the scene off Shutta Road, East Looe, shortly before 11pm.
They made good progress using a light portable pump and main jet.
Crews remained on scene damping down and making up.
If you are planning a large bonfire, Cornwall Fire, Rescue and Community Safety Service say they need to be informed before you start on 0203 162 2240.
Tell the operator:
Your location.
The time you intend to start burning.
And confirm when you have finished burning.
‘With controlled burns, it is illegal to leave a fire unattended or to have too few people to control it,’ said a spokesman.
‘Always ensure a fire is completely out before you leave it and check next day to ensure it has not reignited.’
