Police in South East Cornwall say they have not subscribed to the policy held by some forces in the UK of not upholding the law regarding use of the Class B drug cannabis and the growing of the plant for personal use. Sgt Jo Williams, of Liskeard police, said: ‘There is a myth out there that cannabis is harmless but nothing could be further from the truth. ‘Crimes for the possession of drugs, particularly cannabis, rose in this area last year by 21.4 per cent, as did convictions for the cultivation of cannabis. She added: ‘However, it still remains an easily and accessible illegal drug. ‘Locally and across the Devon and Cornwall force, my colleagues will continue to treat as crimes those who use cannabis, deal cannabis and grow cannabis.’
