Two of the people killed in yesterday’s horrific A38 crash tragedy at Landrake were a 32-year-old mother from Saltash and her six-year-old son, police have said.

They were pronounced dead at the scene of the five-car collision yesterday morning.

The mum’s four-year-old son sustained potentially serious head injuries and was airlifted by air ambulance to Bristol Children’s Hospital. He remains in hospital and his condition is improving, said police this afternoon.

A pedestrian, a 53-year-old man from Plymouth, also sustained fatal injuries after being struck by a vehicle and he died at the scene.

Six further people were taken to Derriford Hospital with injuries which were not believed to be serious and two others were treated at the scene by ambulance.

The A38 was closed in both directions until around 7.50pm while officers from Bodmin Roads Policing Team carried out a forensic examination of the scene.
