Police are appealing for information after a man stole money from a 91-year-old woman during a distraction burglary in Looe.

The elderly victim was at her home in Tower Close, Pelynt, on Friday, April 29 when a man selling tea towels knocked on her door at around 1.45pm.

He asked if he could borrow a pen. When the woman went to get one, he followed her and took £200 from an envelope in the front room before leaving.

House-to-house enquiries carried out in the area have shown that the same man called at a neighbouring property moments before.

Both women who saw the suspect have described him as a white man, between 5ft 5ins and 5ft 6ins in height and he may have had a foreign accent. He was wearing a blue anorak and carrying a folder.

A police spokesperson said: ’We would like to hear from anyone who saw or spoke to this man in the area, saw a vehicle he was using or has any information about him.’

Anyone with any information is asked to email [email protected] or call 101, quoting reference CR/027567/16.
