Firefighters from across Cornwall and Plymouth tackled a major blaze at a marina last night.

Crews from Torpoint and Saltash found a boat well alight when they answered a 999 call to Southdown Marina, Millbrook shortly after 8pm.

With an outbuilding also on fire, they called for more help and a further appliance from Saltash was sent to the scene.

The fire in the boat, measuring five metres by three metres, had also involved a structure measuring 15 metres by three metres and was at risk of spreading to involve further boats.

Reinforcements from Plymouth, St Austell and St Dennis joined in the fight to contain the blaze.

It was not until 10.30pm that the fire was declared to be out, and crews stayed at the marina beyond midnight damping down hot spots.
