Police today issued a photo of knives handed in at three Cornish stations on the first day of an amnesty designed to take so-called ’zombie’ knives off the streets.

Devon and Cornwall Police is holding the amnesty from November 15 to 21.

Officers say this initiative has been prompted by recent legislation that prohibits the sale or importation of ‘zombie knives’.

’Police want to give people the opportunity to hand these shocking weapons in, along with any other unwanted knives, to take them out of circulation, avoiding them ending up in the wrong hands,’ said a spokesman.

Special red collection bins will be at all police enquiry offices – for a list of locations visit www.dc.police.uk
