FIREFIGHTERS in Saltash had a surprise visit from two people who wanted to offer the crew a profound thankyou.
In October of last year, husband and wife Tom and Helen were involved in a collision on the A38 at Tideford.
The actions of the crew members who attended the scene were critical to a positive outcome for the couple, as they explained in a handwritten thankyou.
Both were taken to hospital, and with serious injuries, Helen had to have surgery and had to stay in hospital for nine and a half weeks.
’My husband and I want to thank you for the incredible work you did that night,’ wrote Helen.
’It is because of you guys safely cutting me from the car and getting me onto that spinal board that I am still able to walk today.
’It was the most horrific moment of our lives but the kindness you showed by just talking to us and keeping us calm is something we will both never forget.
’We are both incredibly thankful to make full recoveries and want to thank you for the part you all played in that. You all do an amazing job.’
Tom and Helen visited Saltash Community Fire Station during the weekly drill session to present crew with a box of treats and a thankyou card.
A spokesperson for the station said: ’We are delighted to hear that both Helen and Tom have now made recoveries and thank you to them both for the treats.
’Helen has set a goal of running a marathon early next year and has already completed a half marathon during lockdown.’
