The Cornwall Air Ambulances flew 55 missions in May, according to the latest figures released by the charity.

The helicopter medical teams attended emergencies twice in one day in the Liskeard area and seven times in total during the month.

Five of the patients, two of whom were injured in road accidents, were flown to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.

Meanwhile, two patients were flown to Derriford from the Looe area. One of these people had fallen on rocks in an area with no land access.

A total of 246 missions have been flown this year up to the end of May.
