THE mayor of Saltash, Jean Dent, and Torpoint's mayor Mike Pearn took part in a ceremony on Wednesday with the Lord Mayor of Plymouth, Vivien Pengelly, to mark the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings. Many American troops left from both sides of the River Tamar and the ceremony was held close to the D-Day memorial near the Tamar Bridge. Prebendary Brian Anderson, chaplain of Saltash Royal British Legion, conducted the service which included a two-minute silence. Wreaths were laid by the civic leaders and members of the Royal British Legion and Royal Naval Association.
