After some superb results in the RYA South West region Team 15 series, a team of young windsurfers from Siblyback Lake near Liskeard won through to compete against 13 teams from nine other regions at the Champions Cup on Rutland Water.

Despite not winning every race, overall points kept the Water Warriors in front and enabled them to take the series title.

The Rutland competition exceeded expectations with the 223 entrants making it the largest Course Racing Windsurfing event in the UK. The winners in each class would be crowned National Inland Champions.

Despite journeys from Cornwall lasting well in to the night and the few remaining hours spent in tents and vans, the Siblyback team emerged excited and eager to get on the water.

The light breeze, which delayed the first start, soon gave way to a building wind and some great racing.

In the 3.5 sail size fleet, Fraser Scobie and Chris Hancock battled into the top 10 places in some of their races and ended the weekend in 16th and 17th position, respectively. In the 4.5 class, Fraser's older sister Iona and teammate, Ruth were having the same duel finishing 22nd and 23rd but the performance of the day had to go to Ruth with a fantastic 2nd place in race 7. Representing Siblyback in the 5.8 class was Charlie Seddon with a solid performance, again, top 10 places in two races and 20th overall. In the Bic Techno class Josie Spencer (6.8 fleet) posted consistent results which were able to be scored for the team.

After a weekend of racing, fun, human table football and live entertainment in Rutland Sailing Club, a tired but happy and more experienced team, finished in 9th place, and set off for home.
