Torpoint Athletic clinched the Kitchen Kit South West Peninsula League Premier East title and promotion to the Western League with a convincing 7-1 home victory over Honiton Town at The Mill on Thursday night.
Point needed a win from their penultimate league game of the campaign to seal the crown and Dean Cardew’s men duly delivered.
They had it all wrapped inside the first 24 minutes as they raced into a 5-0 lead, and they added two more goals after the break.
Curtis Damerell hit a hat-trick, including a penalty, to take him to 54 league goals for the season - a record for a Peninsula League Step Six season.
The other goals came from Ryan Richards, Callum O’Brien, Owen Haslam and Callum Thompson.
It was the first league title for Point in over 50 years, with the last one achieved by Dean’s grandfather Les in 1967.
Point will be looking to surpass 100 points for the season when they play their final league game at home to Dartmouth on Saturday, before looking to complete the double in the League Cup final against St Blazey at Launceston’s Pennygillam on Saturday, May 7.
