Tribute League

Cornwall and

Devon

With promotion to Western Counties (W) assured for both sides, the league title and early bragging rights next season were at stake. A sizeable home crowd and a large number of travelling support from East Cornwall watched what was a memorable afternoon for all.

The hosts started the stronger, with a penalty from fly half Ollie Avery-Wright in the eighth minute, extended further with a well-taken try from scrum half Tom Ronchetti, converted by Avery-Wright for a 10-0 lead on the quarter hour. The match was fast paced and end to end, with both sides going hard at each other. With strong defence on both sides, the score did not change until the 37th minute when Saltash hooker Ryan Rayner went in from close range for a try converted by skipper Max Venables for 10-7. Avery-Wright nudged Crediton to a 13-7 lead at the break.

Into the second half a try from winger Will Morton closed the gap to 13-12 on the hour to set up a tense last quarter. It was the home side who pulled away with Avery Wright adding a penalty and a conversion to centre Mark Lee's try in the 71st minute to take the title for Crediton.
