ST Columba won the battle of the bottom two to increase their chances of avoiding the drop.

The home side made a very bright start, with loose-head prop Adrian Nethercott opening the scoring by driving over from the base of a ruck, and Ben Green added the extras.

When centre Tony Pitts went over for a try wide out, the home side looked well in control and should probably have scored more.

Saints' hooker Neil Walters was then sent to the sin bin, and from the resulting penalty, Chris Drew reduced the deficit.
