Despite the loss of two days’ racing the weather conditions improved to allow the full nine- race programme to be completed over the last four days in Looe Bay.

Plenty of aching limbs were reported as the competitors hauled their boats back up to their berths on the sea front, especially on the Tuesday and Wednesday after long days at sea with three races each day to catch up.

Early leaders Mark Lunn and Steve Blackburn appeared to be running away with it after three wins in the first four races. However, eventual winners Tim Sadler and Richard Sault came from behind as the week went on with three wins, two seconds and a third place to secure the ultimate prize.

Racing was close, sometimes too close as was evident by repair work being undertaken by several competitors.

With 11 home boats taking part a lot of local interest was created and congratulations go to Looe boy Steve Sargent ably assisted by young crew Kiera Sylvester on gaining sixth place, his best position after many years of entering the event.

Within the main event competitors are placed in bronze, silver or gold fleets depending on experience. Congratulations also go to Esther Bowdler and Edward Stable, again from Looe, on winning the bronze fleet award while competing in their first Enterprise championships.

Thanks go to race officers Roger Hocking and Arthur Kinver and their team for organising the racing; Dave Peat for providing the committee boat once again; all the safety boat crews for looking after everybody so ably on the water; the beach teams for help with launching and recovery; and to Carol Kinver and helpers who did a fine job looking after catering in the clubhouse.
