EARLY dry weather last Thursday soon transformed into driving light rain as just 39 Fossils competed for the Long Tom Trophy at St Mellion International Resort.

Although the course was still outstanding, the unpleasant playing conditions contributed to a number of members both playing and retiring early.

The conditions impacted on the scores, with only one player reaching 40 points. The winner of the Long Tom Trophy was David Pover, who recorded an outstanding 43 points.
