TORPOINT POOL LEAGUE SPONSORED BY WHEELERS
Congratulations to the following: Barney Keegan, of Just Standard, on securing enough points with two matches to go to claim Player of the Season; Ian Preston, of Free Wheelers, for reclaiming Supreme Champion; Jacqui Guy and Dan Savage for winning the Del Rose Mixed Scotch Doubles tournament and Steve Kennedy of G & T for winning the Captain's Cup.
Some things are still to be settled though as first placed Cons Warriors took on second placed Free Wheelers. Warriors started well with wins for Jack Moore (8-ball) over Reece O'Donnell 2-1, Rod Pender took out John Olford 2-0, Brian Reid accounted for Wayne Pope, also 2-0, and Brian Phillips saw off Ron Stones, also 2-0, for a 4-0 lead.
Wheelers then fought back through Haydon Pinhey defeating Andy Arnold 2-1 with Andy consoling himself with an 8-ball clearance and newly-crowned Supreme Champion Ian Preston defeated Tony Hart 2-0. This spurred Wheelers onto greater things as they then took all three doubles for a 5-4 win. This sees the sides level on points but Warriors have a far superior frame difference and it seems a huge task for them to lose the title now.
Elsewhere Paula Brooks, of WKD Wheelers, is a step closer to winning the Sara Cassell Trophy for the highest placed female after her 2-1 win over Captain's Cup winner Steve Kennedy. But her team lost 3-6 to G & T who took a step closer to securing third place, although a slip would see the next three teams in with a shout.
The only other 8-ball clearance was achieved by Shaun Fletcher, of Kings Finger, in his 2-1 win over Matt Chugg, of Halfway House – Fletcher was the only winner in an 8-1 defeat.
