The first of three Point-to-Point horse racing fixtures to be held on the Royal Cornwall Showground venue near Wadebridge takes place this coming Sunday, December 11.
Nearly 60 good quality entries have been received for the six race card which starts at 12 noon and is organised by the Cornwall Hunt Club.
The opening Home Furnishings of Wadebridge-sponsored members race for novice riders has attracted star quality ex national hunt horses such as Polisky previously from champion trainer Paul Nicholls team.
Polisky won a Hunter Chase at Ascot earlier this year when ridden by Bryony Frost coming home ahead of Penmore Mill that day.
Another entry De Boitron has previous wins at Cheltenham, Wetherby and Kelso, had been in training most recently with Sue Smith and now an addition to the Janet Ackner team.
Consigliere may need to overcome top weight to figure in the Mick Moore Landrovers-sponsored mens open race. Premier Portrait is another prolific winning horse which could figure, both hold entries at Larkhill, which could leave the way open for recent Black Forest Lodge winner Boygojumping along with previous course winner Welstondruid to battle up the hill among the 13 entered.
Robert Trevarthen butchers sponsor the ladies open race with a small field of five entered, this race could be equally exciting with recent Black Forest Lodge runner up Ambitous Pursuit under jockey Pippa Glanville looking to go one better. Connections of Polisky may choose this race over the earlier members race which could see trainer/jockey Chloe Roddick take the ride.
Rockinrolldixie out of the Deans Summersby yard is a suggestion in the Foot Anstey-sponsored restricted race, with the booking of Darren Edwards on board who has just clocked up his 200th career win and has a good track record here. Pauls Conn is another to consider after his impressive maiden win at Chipley Park last season under jockey Nick Lawton.
Follow The Paint having previously won at this course, and Key People are two to consider in the intermediate race which is a qualifier for the Connolly’s Red Mills Intermediate Hunter Chase final to be held at Cheltenham. Finally up is the open maiden race in which consideration should be given to Classical Milano out of the Jack Barber yard, along with Troubleshot having gone close here previously for the Robert Chanin team.
This fixture always has a Christmas festive feel to it, with a host of trade stands set inside the huge covered barn. Hot food and refreshments together with bar, bookies and a giant TV screen ensure a fun day out is on offer for all the family to enjoy.
The course is located at The Royal Cornwall Showground Wadebridge off A39 West of Wadebridge. PL27 7JE. Entrance to course is £10 per person up to a max of £30 per car load. Children under 16 free. Dogs on leads welcome.
