A small team from the Callington-based Cornwall Club TT Taekwondo joined forces with Ivybridge Taekwondo club Xtreme to make the long journey to Manchester to take part in the two-day Manchester Open tournaments.
Paul Williams from TT fought on the Saturday and took silver in his division Class B, Daniel Read, also from TT, did a great job and took two golds in his division Class B.
On the Sunday for Class A black belt divisions, TT's Paul Williams had the opportunity to have a fight with the Class A divisions using the new Daedo Olympic scoring system. He did a great job winning silver.
At the Panther Black Belt Academy Open Tournament in Hampshire, the team also did Poomsae (kata) as well as the full-contact fighting.
Poomsae results: Master Dale Trevail gold (Senior Black Belt Division), Paul Williams gold (Senior Kup Grades) and Daniel Read silver (Senior Kup Grades).
Then came the fighting with Paul Williams from TT fighting Black Belt James Chapman from Xtreme, taking bronze.
Although losing to James, who is a very experienced fighter, Paul scored some good points with the final score being very close. Daniel Read, from TT, also got to fight James Chapman and again Daniel put in a great fight, but James' experience outfought Daniel. Paul and Daniel are now looking forward to the next one next month.
