LISKEARD-LOOE'S under-14s booked their place in the final of the this season's Plate competition with a superb 27-7 victory over their Newquay counterparts.

It was the visitors who applied some early pressure, forcing some good tackles from Tom Dinnis, Archie Doidge and Billy Palfrey.

However, the Lions scored the first points through a Dinnis penalty, after Newquay were

penalised for coming in at the side of a ruck.

Newquay continued to force Liskeard-Looe back into their own zone, but a well-read interception by Palfrey took play well into the Newquay half.

A period of good possession for the home team saw Angus Tamblyn break for the line; the ball was recycled well and passed among the backs for Goron Jones to score in the corner.

Dinnis narrowly missed the difficult conversion.

Another Lions try followed shortly afterwards, when a well-placed Dinnis grubber kick was chased down by Dan Hughes; he was tackled but offloaded well for Ben Gordon to touch down.
