LOSTWITHIEL’S mixed martial arts fighter Kate Jackson will return to action tonight (Thursday) after a nine-month lay-off with a fight in Italy.

She is taking part in Bellator 247 at the Allianz Cloud in Milan and she was due to be part of the main card.

But her fight with Dutch girl Denise Kielholtz is now the main event, which will be shown live on Sky Sports Mix, with the fight programme starting at 9pm.

Kate, 34, has not fought in anger since her unsuccessful world title bid against Ilima-Lei Macfarlane in Honolulu just before last Christmas.

Plans for a return in May were scuppered by coronavirus, but she is chomping at the bit to get back in action.

“There was a potential fight for me in May in California, but COVID put paid to that,” Kate told the Cornish Times.

“I got this offer about six weeks ago, so it was quite short notice compared to normal, and I had decided by that point that I wasn’t likely to have any normal competition this year, so it was really exciting to get a fight offer.

“My opponent is a really good Dutch kick boxer and a judo black belt, so she is quite good at mixing the two.”
