A HAT-TRICK for Sam Hughes led the way in this 8-1 rout over Cullompton Rangers at Speeds Meadow, which moved Saltash United up to fourth in the Carlsberg South West Peninsula League Premier Division table with games in hand over those above them.

The only surprise in Tuesday's game was that it took Saltash until the 31st minute to open their account when Stuart Clark found Luke Doddridge on the right flank.

The Ashes winger beat his marker to reach the bye-line before pulling the ball back into the path of the onrushing Hughes to sweep the ball home from ten yards.

That goal was the signal for Ashes to score three more in the next 13 minutes to end the game as a contest.
