A PRIZE purse of £1,925 and a first qualifying round trip to Toolstaton Western League Premier outfit Willand Rovers was the reward as Saltash ground out this narrow victory at Kimberley Stadium on Wednesday night.

The tie was minutes away from being abandoned, after the Ashes' floodlights had failed on three occasions, before the electrician worked his magic and fixed the problem.

Martin Burgess' side went in front after 13 minutes when a fine raking pass from Jimmy Alexander found Sam Hughes out-muscling his marker, before firing the ball across goalkeeper Steve Phillips and inside the far post.

The Ashes were looking good for their 1-0 lead when the players were plunged into darkness on 34 minutes.
