A St Mellion golfer was close at hand as Europe spectacularly regained the Ryder Cup at Le Golf National in Paris on Sunday.

Tony Prout, a member of the Fossils veterans at the South East Cornwall club, was one of the army of marshals trying to control the massive crowds as America’s finest players were put to the sword.

Keith Field, one of Tony’s golfing colleagues with the Fossils, said: ‘He was regularly updating his colleagues.

‘No doubt when he returns to the “white heat” of Fossils golf at St Mellion he will have had first hand knowledge of how the really big boys manage the pressure.’

After the Ryder Cup event, Tony spent time sightseeing around Paris before going on to a family holiday in Brittany.
