TWO students from Fowey Community College have been chosen to take part in a National athletics competition in Birmingham next weekend.

Year 9 pupil Shannon Mae Watkins will compete at the televised All-England Schools' Athletics Championships at Alexander Stadium next Friday and Saturday, when she will run a leg of the four-by-100-metre relay.

The 14-year-old was selected following a strong performance at the Exeter Arena last weekend, when she represented Cornwall at the South West County Championships along with fellow Fowey pupil Jake Penprase, (14), who ran the 100 metres.

Watkins' relay team were second and reached the Championships with an excellent qualifying time.
