the first of the Cornwall County Shortmat Bowls Association's County Finals were played at Carnmoggas Indoor Bowls Club on Sunday.
During the morning the Mixed Fours was contested by the eight qualifiers from earlier in the season. In the quarter finals Cynthia Storer, Patsy Wakeley, Graham Luke and Chris Roberts defeated Rob Peareth, Lesley Clayton, Terry Bray and Pam Williams 9-8.
Robert Rawlings, Lynette Gollege, Bill Sharp and Brenda Sleep were 13-4 winners against Elise Daniell, Caroline Moore, Nicholas Truscott and Peter Hore.
Ruth Newbury, Betty Temple-Smith, Max Burden and Keith Matthews were 14-3 winners against Tina Wills, Barry Kessell, Linda Martin and Gerald Fisher and in the final game Diane Shorthouse, Sheila Hodge, Dennis Shorthouse and Neil Gribble were 10-7 winners against Jim Stanley, Jenny Smith, Gordon Smith and Carolyn Stanley.
In the semi-finals Keith Matthews defeated Neil Gribble 9-8 and Brenda Sleep won 6-5 against Chris Roberts.
In the final Brenda Sleep defeated Keith Matthews 10-7.
The day's other competition saw 14 club champions contest the County Champion of Champions competition in a straight knockout format.
Local first round results were Neil Gribble (Landrake) defeated Betty Temple-Smith (Luxulyan), and Peter Skinner (Saltash) won 12-9 against Carol Cummins (Liskeard).
In the quarter-finals Gribble won 10-6 against Chris Harris (Hayle) and Skinner needed an extra end to defeat Ruth Newbury (Wadebridge) 8-7.
In the semi-finals Gribble edged a very tight game against Meg Horrell (Withiel) 6-4 and in contrast Peter Hore (Holmans) dominated against Skinner winning 15-1.
In the final Hore led 7-4 going into the last end and, with Gribble lying three shots to potentially force an extra end, Hore moved the jack to pick up two to win 9-4 and a 20th county title.
