A NUMBER of Fossils travelled to Carlyon Bay on Monday to take part in the Cornwall Senior Golfers' Association's (CSGA) President's Day.
None of the St Mellion players sparkled in the poor weather, meaning they returned home empty-handed from a CSGA event for the first time this year.
Tuesday morning did not inspire confidence that the match against Dartmouth for the Tamar Cup would go ahead.
After an early-morning telephone conversation between the two captains, Dartmouth travelled to St Mellion intent on prising the Cup from the Fossils' grip.
The forecast had threatened rain and so, as the last pairings left the first tee, the rain began to fall – never to let up.
After just nine holes and with the greens becoming waterlogged, the teams elected to take an early shower; the match score was decided at that stage, with St Mellion running out the winners by five and three.
