Callington FC women head into tonight’s (Tuesday) Cornwall FA Women’s Cup semi-final (7.30pm kick off at Godolphin Atlantic (Newquay) in decent form with 11 wins from their last 13 games.
However, they will expect a difficult encounter against a Charlestown side who have all but secured the league title, with Callington looking set to finish in second place. The two sides met at the semi-final stage last season and Callington came out on top that night. Town should welcome back three players as Jodie Shipton, Stacey Derrick and Emma Anderson return.
Town manager Adam McPherson said: ‘We believe we’ve got the squad to go all the way in this competition and we just need to perform to our level on the night. They do have a few players who will be difficult to deal with, but they will also be concerned about what we can bring to the game as well.’
The two sides feature two of the best goal-scorers in the South West League in Kat Marment and Tori Marks. Both are well into double figures for the season. The winners go on to face either Mabe FC (Cornwall county league) or Newquay Celtic (South West League) who play in the other semi-final tomorrow (Wednesday). The final is scheduled for Sunday, May 8, venue to be confirmed.
