Sam Rogers marked his return from suspension by scoring the only goal of promotion-chasing Liskeard Athletic’s game at struggling Plymstock on Wednesday night.

The striker, who hasn’t played for the Blues since before Easter, came on as a 77th minute substitute with the Carlsberg South West Peninsula League division one west match goalless.

Two minutes later Rogers was in the middle of the penalty area to latch onto a left wing cross and steered a left foot drive into the far corner of the net.

It came as a massive boost and relief for a Liskeard side who looked likely to miss out on maximum points despite dominating.

Liskeard went up to second place after this result, a point behind leaders Millbrook, who were 4-1 winners over Dobwalls at Jenkins Park.

Striker Rikki Shepherd scored a hat-trick for Millbrook, who have played two games less than Liskeard.

Elsewhere, Porthleven beat Bude 3-0 to go fourth, a point behind Liskeard but with a game in hand.
