Plus there is news that the club’s prolific goal scorer James Lorenz may need knee surgery.

Storm Dennis devastated many football fixtures last weekend – but one of the few events which took place was the women’s football South West League Cup quarter-final between Callington Town and Portishead, partly thanks to action with a broom by Callington Town manager Adam McPherson – see our picture on the Cornish Times back page.

With time for reflection, we also have some analysis of how the area’s teams have fared so far this season in the St Piran League East, East Cornwall League and Duchy League, plus there is our Argyle Focus column.

Bodmin Road Runners braved atrocious conditions to hold their half-marathon last Sunday, with 340 runners taking part – we have pictures of some of the competitors battling the weather.

The storms have also led to the postponement of the East Cornwall point to point meeting due to have taken place at Great Trethew, near Liskeard, this Sunday – though a Western Hunt meeting at Wadebridge may provide some compensation.

Sports Editor Nigel Walrond reports that Liskeard-Looe RFC face a tough test against Chosen Hill Former Pupils tomorrow (Saturday) if they are to stay on course for their first visit to Twickenham since 2009. plus Saltash’s Jack Wickham will be making his first start for Cornwall Under-20s against Berkshire at Camborne on Sunday.

There is also our Sport Digest round-up of golf, hockey, short mat bowls, euchre and other sports action – plus we’d like to hear from people in South East and Mid Cornwall who are running in the 2020 London Marathon.
