Saltash United will be keeping a close eye on the weather over the next 12 hours as they prepare for one of the biggest games in their history.

The Ashes are set to face Bristol-based Cribbs FC of the Western League in the FA Vase third round at Kimberley Stadium on Saturday (3pm kick-off).

But the tie, washed out last weekend after heavy overnight rain, is again doubtful after heavy showers on Thursday and more rain forecast.

Should the game be off, it is likely the FA would want the teams to rearrange for next midweek. Whenever it goes ahead, it will now be played to a finish, including extra time and penalties if necessary, to avoid the need for a replay in Bristol.

Saltash manager Matt Cusack told the Cornish Times: ‘The forecast for the next couple of days isn’t great so we could be in for another disappointment.’

If the Ashes beat Cribbs, they would be at home to Sydenhams Wessex League premier division side Sholing, who won the FA Vase four years ago.

It would be a second visit to Cornwall in the Vase this season for Sholing, having beaten Torpoint Athletic 1-0 in a first round tie at The Mill on October 13.

Striker Sam Hughes is unlikely to have recovered from a hamstring injury in time to face Cribbs, while midfield man Henry Wilson is suspended.

But top scorer Ryan Richards is expected to be back after recovering from a hamstring injury which has kept him out for a month.
