NEWLY-formed Saltash United Ladies have pulled off a major surprise by signing former Plymouth Argyle Ladies first-team goalkeeper Ben Kyle.

This is a terrific coup for joint managers Dave Hengle and Wes Westlake, who are building a formidable squad for the upcoming season in the Cornwall League.

Kyle decided to stand down at Argyle at the end of last season to concentrate on degree studies.

But the talented ‘keeper will not be lost to the game after putting pen to paper with Saltash.

Kyle said: ‘I’m buzzing to say I’m going to be a Saltash United player this coming season.

‘I’m looking forward to starting a new journey with this fantastic club.

‘I couldn’t commit to travel with Argyle and other expectations alongside my degree.

‘Saltash is going to be a lot more manageable as I live locally.’
